Connection of water to other global issues: war and peace, energy sustainability, poverty and hunger, climate change, ecosystem collapse.

How much water do we use? Average use per person in the US: 140 gallons per day, based on the water meter into the home. Golf course - over 300,000 gallons per day.

Virtual water. US is the world’s largest gross exporter and 3rd largest net exporter of virtual water. Virtual water in everyday things: apple - 18 gallons; cup of coffee - 37 gallons; hamburger - 634 gallons. Average use per person in the US: 1850 gallons per day virtual water. - waterfootprint.org

Rest of the world. 1 in 6 without safe drinking water; 1 in 3 without adequate sanitation.

Subsidence. Guatemala city sinkhole is a remarkable example.
